Dear Yuuki,

Hopefully this doesn't have too many typos. My hands are shaking like crazy! Oh my Grandpa, so we spent the day playing around in San Jose California, right? It's one of the scheduled stops on our magical mystery tour, which Skippy and I chose based around the Winchester Mystery House.

The story goes that after losing her daughter and husband, Sarah Winchester went to a fortune teller to inquire as to why she was so miserable and unlucky. The fortune teller informed Winchester that her family was being haunted by the ghosts  of every person ever killed by Winchester rifles--massacred Indians, Confederate soldiers, and everyday normal homicides. That's a lot of ghosts. And some of the accounts get kinda muddy here, but some say the fortune teller claimed she needed to build a house for these ghosts to appease them, and as long as she never stopped building the house, she would have nothing to fear. And Sarah Winchester was the sole living heir to the Winchester Repeating Rifle Company, so she had a daily income of $1000, back before there were income taxes, and that was in the 1880s. So she started building a house and kept building, never stopping for weather or holidays, until the day she died in 1922. The layout is all screwy, and sometimes Sarah would just change her mind about something arbitrarily, and there are hallways that go nowhere and doors that open to four story drops, everything's decorated in spiderweb motifs, all the fixtures are in groups of thirteen, and there's only one known secret passage, but the current owners are sure there has to be more.

This being a spooky place, Skippy and I decided to opt for one of their after dark flashlight tours, so we had most of the day to just play around. We killed some time in the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum, checked out the Japanese Friendship Garden in Kelley Park, and got dinner at a taco truck. But it still wasn't gonna be dark for a while, so we caught a free outdoor concert at the Los Gatos Civic Center; some Johnny Cash tribute guy. Not terrible, but nothing to write home about. Finally, the sun went down, and we made our way back to the Winchester Mystery House for our tour.

Skippy was super disappointed after, because even though the architecture is crazy awesome, he thought for sure it was going to be haunted. Apparently, Skippy didn't see anything at all and thought I was just humoring him and only acting like I was freaking out. I WAS NOT HUMORING HIM. You know me, Yuuki, I don't panic easily. I've insulted things more deadly than most people can imagine. But it was so cold in that mansion. And I could hear...things. And I was frightened. ...I didn't like it. Still kinda shaky. Not sure what's going on. It almost sounded like whisperinaoifhndabsnf

Yeah, so apparentyl, Skippy has the ability to sneak up on me now. Little bastard nearly gave me a heart attack. Ok, so  you know me, you know I don't panic. Kinda freaked now. I know that there are ghosts, because Mr. Byrne can talk to them. But I don't know if there were actually ghosts there, or I was just buying into the hype and freaking out for no reason. Or going crazy is a possibility. I don't like it, but let's be realistic. This is me we're talking about.

I hope the campers aren't giving you too much trouble, Yuuki. And I also hope you're sleeping better thatn I am. ttyl

~Yvonne
